CAT 2015 was conducted in two sessions on 29th November. The Pattern and Style were similar in both slots. It was expected that CAT 2015 will have a higher difficulty level, but on the contrary only Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) section had a high level of difficulty, and Quantitative Ability and Verbal Reasoning were relatively easy. Let’s take a better look at the exam.
Overall the exam had same pattern as declared by the authorities in the mock exam. There were three sections, namely, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. The sections were in a fixed order. Non-MCQ questions were in heavy number in the exam.
Verbal Ability
The questions in this section were of easy to moderate difficult level. There were 24 Reading Comprehension questions, consisting of 5 passages and 10 Verbal Ability questions. The passages were more factual and were comparatively easy. All the verbal ability questions were Non-MCQ type. The major surprise was the absence of vocabulary and grammar questions.
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
This section consisted of 16 questions on Data Interpretation and 16 questions on Logical Reasoning. The questions on Data Interpretation were lengthy and calculation intensive. The sets in Logical Reasoning were much more difficult than the Data Interpretation sets. Calculator was useful in solving few of Data Interpretation sets.
Quantitative Ability
There were 34 questions in this section, out of which 15 questions were Non-MCQ type. Due to these questions, the difficulty level of the section was marginally higher than that of the previous year. The questions were set so as to check the basic understanding of concepts. The major surprise was the absence of questions on Number Systems.
The result of CAT 2015 shall be declared by second week of January. Based upon the assessment of your exam attempt, start applying to different MBA colleges.
