18252 Vacancies in Railways: Are you there?

By / Feb 13, 2019

After a gap of almost 3 years, Indian Railways, one of the largest recruiters in the country, has announced common CBT for filling over 18000 non technical vacancies under various RRBs (Railway Recruitment Boards). This is by far the largest recruitment by a single Government Organization this year and aspirants across the country are making a beeline to grab this opportunity. The competition of course is going to be hard and only the best will make it to the final merit list. Given the fact that the registrations are already over and it’s only a matter of time before the actual exam dates are out, it’s high time to put your preparation in full swing. Read on to understand what to expect from the CBT and how to crack the upcoming RRB (Non-Technical) Exam

Recruitment Process:

As per the notification released by Indian Railways, the overall recruitment process, depending on the post you have applied for, will consist of:

1- Common CBT (Preliminary Round): Compulsory for all candidates.
2- Skill Test: Depending on the post applied for.

For the post of CA, TA, ECRC and Goods Guard, the final merit list will be drawn from the performance of the candidates in the CBT only.

Candidates applying for Sr. Clerk cum Typist, JAA and Sr. Time Keeper will also be required to qualify a typing skill test.

Exam Pattern:

What to Prepare

1- The overall difficulty level of the paper is not very high. Most of the questions are from topics you studied from class 7th to 10th and are focused on mental abilities, calculation and reasoning skills as well as awareness about various aspects of life. It is a good Idea to start revising various formulae, concepts and definitions that we read back in school. Focus should be on application of the concepts rather than the theory.

2- The questions from General Science are mostly from day to day application of science, including key terminologies, scientific inventions and discoveries. Give a through revision to environment and environmental pollution.

3- For the General Awareness section, set aside time to revise at least two to three topics of History, Indian Polity, Indian Economics, and Geography every day. The syllabus for this section is vast and we would strongly recommend that you do not keep it for the last minute. A major focus area in the RRB 2012 (previous) exams was Indian Geography.

4- General intelligence will consist of questions from logical reasoning (both Verbal and Non-Verbal), We would recommend that you take the test analysis approach for it is more beneficial both in clearing your concepts and increasing your speed in solving the questions. Take tests and short quizzes on various topics like Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Syllogism and Inserting Missing Characters.

5- Numerical Ability will contain questions on basic arithmetic and geometry that we studied in school. Just revising the formulae won’t be enough. You also need to solve a lot of questions to fully understand the use of those formulae and increase your speed of computation.

6- Always remember that in an exam like this, where you need to solve more questions in less time, both speed and accuracy will play vital role in determining your chances of success.
